Editor-in-Chief
- Manages overall newspaper production in partnership with adviser
- Designs overall look and standards for publication: The Bell
- Makes final staff editing decisions on content, design, and deadlines
- Writes a minimum of one article per month, rotating between news/feature and opinion.
- Works with adviser to teach staff about interviewing, managing beats, writing well-developed news stories, design techniques and ethics
- Manages working with staff to set a mission statement
- Leads staff to consensus of story ideas and opinions
- Directs daily expectations for class
- Keeps track of deadlines for reporters
- Leads staff in editorial board processes
- Needs an A- in both Newspaper and Advanced to be considered
News Editor
- Manages staff to determine best news stories for each publication
- Coaches writers to develop angles and story elements required for publication
- Edits and revises all news stories to make them better before going to Editor in Chief
- Designs and produces news pages using standards set by the printer and Editor in Chief
- Participates in editorial board processes
- Writes two stories per month
- Needs at least a B in both Newspaper and Advanced to be considered
Features Editor
- Manages staff to determine best feature stories for each publication
- Plans for constants
- Coaches writers to develop angles and story elements required for publication
- Edits and revises all feature stories to make them better before going to Editor in Chief
- Designs and produces feature pages using standards set by the printer and Editor in Chief
- Participates in editorial board processes
- Writes two stories per month
- Needs at least a B in both Newspaper and Advanced to be considered
Opinions Editor
- Manages staff to determine best opinion pieces for each publication
- Plans for and maintains constants
- Coaches writers to develop angles, research and writing elements required for publication.
- Edits and revises all editorials before going to Editor in Chief
- Designs and produces opinion pages using standards set by the printer and Editor in Chief
- Participates in editorial board processes
- Writes two stories per month
- Needs at least a B in both Newspaper and Advanced to be considered
Sports Editor
- Manages staff to determine best sports stories for each publication
- Plans for constants
- Coaches writers to develop angles and story elements required for publication
- Edits and revises all sports stories to make them better before going to Editor in Chief
- Designs and produces sports pages using standards set by the printer and Editor in Chief
- Participates in editorial board processes
- Writes two stories per month
- Needs at least a B in both Newspaper and Advanced to be considered
Online News Manager
- Manages overall online production in partnership with adviser
- Works with Editor in Chief to design overall look of site
- Manages content for online news: LHSNews.net, including stories and photography
- Edits and revises content before going to Editor in Chief
- Posts stories, photography, surveys and reporter information
- Keeps track of deadlines for reporters
- Participates in editorial board processes
- Needs at least a B in both Newspaper and Advanced to be considered
Business Manager
- Organizes and assigns ads to be sold by staff members
- Keeps track of all incoming ads sales by staff members
- Accounts for monthly publication production cost spending
- Communicates with all advertisers to receive correct advertising content for each publication
- Builds, designs and lays out all advertising
- Produces, organizes and mails monthly advertising bills with tear sheets
- Participates in editorial board processes
- Designs and lays out any additional news/feature, table of contents or games pages
- Needs at least a B in both Newspaper and Advanced to be considereda
Reporter
- Covers school events
- Keeps track of all upcoming events
- Writes things to keep the school updated
- Writes different types of stories almost every time
